ABOUT SUSIE DAVIS

I was born in North London, but have lived in the South Shropshire countryside for most of my adult life.

A published novelist and fiction editor for many years, I put down my pen and picked up a paintbrush ten years ago.

Acrylics, inks, pastels and collage all find their way into my work.

Handmade collage papers add depth and a translucent glow. The process of adding layers and interest always excites me. A day without painting is not a happy day!

The funky florals emerged from my love of cottage flowers.

You won’t see botanically correct copies here. You may spot daisies or tulips but these are also the flowers of my imagination.

Exuberant, and crazy, an expression of the joy I feel among them.

The Abstracts are where I can let go, dig a little deeper to find what I’m looking for.

As with the florals, there may be multiple layers of interest, often using collage and mixed media.

I love to work on quality paper but bigger works are often on canvas or panels. The itch to paint is my inspiration for abstracts. For me, every painting is a leap into the unknown.
